Tang Si Shrine (also spelled Tang Sii Shrine or Tang Si Miao 唐四庙)

The Tang Si Shrine is an important Chinese shrine for the Thai-Chinese community, especially in areas such as Yaowarat (Bangkoks Chinatown) or other regions with a large population of overseas Chinese in Thailand.

The name Tang Si (唐四) can be interpreted in different ways it may refer to the Fourth Tang Dynasty, or symbolically to the Four Deities of the Tang Dynasty, depending on local beliefs and interpretations.

Characteristics and Significance

  • The Tang Si Shrine is typically built in traditional Chinese architectural style, featuring ornate roofs with curved gables, dragon and phoenix motifs, and bright red and gold decorations symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Tang Si Shrine or Pueng Tao Gong Ma Tang Si Shrine

It is an important Chinese shrine in Surin Province, located on Si Lak Mueang Road, near Surin Hospital. The shrine serves as a spiritual center for the local Thai-Chinese community and regularly hosts a variety of cultural and religious activities, fostering community unity and preserving traditional Chinese heritage.

The worship points within the shrine are clearly marked with numbered indicators, guiding devotees on the proper order of paying respects. There are a total of 13 incense sticks used across these points.

  • Step 2: Worship A-Gong and A-Ma 3 incense sticks
  • Step 3: Left gate (facing outward) 1 incense stick
  • Step 4: Right gate (facing outward) 1 incense stick
  • Step 5: Ancestral Shrine (Tai Yai) 3 incense sticks
  • Step 6: Pueng Tao Gong Ma 2 candles (already placed in holders by the shrine)
