Pha Taem National Park is one of the most important natural and archaeological attractions in northeastern Thailand. Covering an area of approximately 212,500 rai, it is located in Khong Chiam, Si Mueang Mai, and Pho Sai districts of Ubon Ratchathani Province. It was designated as Thailand’s 74th national park.

The park is famous for its dramatic cliffs along the Mekong River, prehistoric rock paintings dating back around 3,000–4,000 years, and its reputation as the place where the sun rises first in Thailand.

Wat Sirindhorn Wararam Phu Phrao (The Glowing Temple), Ubon Ratchathani Province

Wat Sirindhorn Wararam Phu Phrao, widely known as the “Glowing Temple,” is located on Phu Phrao Hill in Chong Mek Subdistrict, Sirindhorn District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, near the Thai–Lao border.

This temple is renowned nationwide for its remarkable architectural beauty and the famous phenomenon of the “glowing ubosot” (ordination hall) at night. The temple’s illuminated Bodhi tree artwork creates a striking green-golden glow after sunset, giving the site a mystical and serene atmosphere.

Because of its unique design, scenic hilltop location, and panoramic views over the Mekong River, the temple attracts a steady flow of both Thai and international visitors throughout the year.

Two-Colored River Viewpoint

This viewpoint is located in Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, near Wat Khong Chiam. It offers a stunning view of the confluence of two rivers flowing together—the Mun River and the Mekong River.

The Mun River usually appears more turbid and brownish, while the Mekong River is clearer with a greenish tone. This contrast creates a visible natural boundary between the two waterways, forming a striking and almost magical scene before they merge into a single large river system that continues its journey toward Laos and Cambodia.
