Wat Khao Sala Atulthanajaro and Pha Nang Khoi Viewpoint

A Destination of Faith and Nature in Buachet District, Surin Province

Amid the lush forests of the Phanom Dong Rak mountain range along the Thailand-Cambodia border lies a hidden gem of Buddhism: Wat Khao Sala Atulthanajaro, locally known simply as Wat Khao Sala.

Nearby is Pha Nang Khoi, a breathtaking viewpoint where visitors can deeply feel the power of nature and the spirit of faith.

A Place of Spirituality and Meditation

Wat Khao Sala, located in Buachet Subdistrict, Buachet District, Surin Province, spans over 10,000 rai within Thailands first Buddhist park.

It has been preserved and developed to serve as a comprehensive center of religion and nature.

This area has been designated as a conservation and development zone under the royal initiative of Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, with General Chettha Thananajaro spearheading its development.

It reflects the collaboration between the Sangha, local communities, and government agencies to sustain Buddhism and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Significant Religious Structures

Main Ordination Hall Amid the Forest

A large Thai-style ordination hall, measuring 30 meters wide and 60 meters long, built through the devotion of Buddhists from across the country. It was granted the royal boundary (Visungkammasima) in 1998 (B.E. 2541).

Buddhas Footprint on Stone

Within the temple grounds lies an ancient Buddha footprint carved into a large stone slab. It is considered a sacred relic, reflecting the centuries-long connection between Buddhism and this area.

The Charm of Pha Nang Khoi Viewpoint

Pha Nang Khoi is more than just a viewpoint; it radiates serenity, depth, and a sacred atmosphere felt from the moment you step onto the stone terrace.

Visitors can hear the wind rustling through the trees and birds singing freely, soothing the mind and creating a sense of escape from the outside world.

The Buddha image in the Naga Prok posture, enshrined at the cliffside, symbolizes protection and tranquility.

It feels as if the Buddha is watching over and safeguarding the land below.

With its serene presence under the shade of trees, many devotees come to meditate, quiet their minds, and seek inner guidance.

The Most Beautiful Viewpoint in Buachet

From this high cliff, visitors can view Ban Charat Reservoir lying peacefully below.

In the morning, the water reflects sunlight like golden sparks, creating a scene so captivating that many reach for their cameras to capture the memory instantly.

In certain seasons, especially in the early mornings of the rainy and cool seasons, a thin sea of mist forms over the forest below.

This creates a painting-like atmosphere, perfect for nature and landscape photography enthusiasts.

A Place to Rejuvenate the Spirit

With its pervasive serenity and sacredness, Pha Nang Khoi serves as a natural sanctuary, welcoming every visitor to find peace and renewal.

Beyond being a viewpoint, Pha Nang Khoi has become a place of letting go for those seeking respite from daily life.

Many visitors choose to retreat in quiet solitude on their days off, practicing meditation or simply closing their eyes and letting the cool breeze refresh their hearts.
