Surin City Pillar Shrine
The Surin City Pillar Shrine is a sacred site and the spiritual center for the people of Surin Province. Located in the heart of the city on Lak Mueang Road, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Surin District, it is only 500 meters from the provincial hall. This shrine is not only significant for its spiritual importance but also reflects the deep cultural roots and long history of the City of Elephants.

In the past, the Surin City Pillar Shrine did not have an official city pillar, but it was continuously revered by the local people. Later, in 1968, Surin Province constructed a new city pillar using a 3-meter-tall Chaiyaphruek wood post with a circumference of 1 meter, donated by residents of Kanchanaburi Province. On August 21, 1972, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) officially consecrated the city pillar at the Chitralada Royal Villa.
Artistry Blending Thai and Neighboring Cultures
The Surin City Pillar Shrine features distinctive architecture that harmoniously blends Thai and Khmer styles. The building is painted in a striking brick-red color, exuding elegance and symbolizing stability and sacredness. The city pillar inside the shrine serves as the central focus, drawing visitors who come to pay their respects for blessings and well-being for themselves and their families.
