Government Support
The government has implemented policies to support farmers in diversifying their crops. Traditionally focused on growing fragrant jasmine rice, a long-renowned specialty of the province, farmers have been encouraged to shift to other crops to generate alternative income under the Surin Prosperity to Organic Agriculture City project. Over time, farmers across various districts have transitioned from mainly cultivating rice to planting fruit trees and raising livestock to increase household income. For example, some farmers have successfully converted flat rice fields into durian orchards, specifically cultivating Monthong durians. Through dedication and careful management, they have achieved consistent harvests for several years, even in areas not naturally suited for fruit cultivation.
