Organic Agriculture vs. GAP: What’s the Difference?
Let’s make it easy to understand so you can confidently choose agricultural products.
Today, consumers are increasingly concerned about the quality and safety of food and agricultural products. Many people are familiar with the terms “organic agriculture” and “GAP,” but do these two standards mean the same thing?
#OrganicAgriculture (#Organic) refers to a production system that emphasizes nature and ecosystems. It includes requirements concerning the use of production inputs, such as avoiding chemical fertilizers and unauthorized synthetic pesticides. It also places importance on soil and water management, biodiversity, and systematic farm management. Production must comply with the requirements of the applicable organic agricultural standards.

#GAP (#GoodAgriculturalPractices), or “Good Agricultural Practices,” focuses on controlling the production process to ensure that agricultural products are of good quality and safe for consumers. This covers everything from selecting suitable production areas and water sources, using fertilizers and pesticides correctly, harvesting, and transportation, to record-keeping and traceability.

In simple terms:

Organic agriculture focuses on an “organic production system” and environmental care, while GAP focuses on “good production practices and product safety.” Therefore, a product certified under GAP does not necessarily mean that it is an organic agricultural product. Organic agricultural products must meet the specific requirements of organic standards.

Before buying, don’t rely only on words such as “safe” or “natural” on the label. Check the certification marks, production source, and applicable standards to make sure the product meets your needs.

Choose with understanding and read labels carefully, because good food begins with production that truly cares.
