Khan Khao Thip Ceremony in Surin – Elephant City locals join together in the traditional sacred rice mixing ritual to preserve the ancient custom held during the end of Buddhist Lent.
Khao Thip (Sacred Rice) Ceremony in Surin Province is based on a belief from the time of the Buddha, when Sujata offered “madhupayasa” (sweet rice milk) to the Buddha before His enlightenment. This sacred offering is considered divine food, and therefore the ritual preparation is called “Khao Thip” or sacred rice.
