Join Us in Preserving the Auspicious Tradition of “แซนโฎนตา” (แซนโฎนตา: Sandon Ta), Honoring Our Ancestors — 2026

The cherished tradition of gratitude and family bonds among the people of Surin is back! Today (October 7, 2026), the atmosphere at the Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Chang Wang Monument Plaza was filled with warmth and excitement as the annual Sandon Ta Festival returned for its 21st consecutive year.

Sandon Ta is an important cultural tradition celebrated on the 14th night of the waning moon in the 10th lunar month. It is a special time when people of Surin return to their hometowns to reunite with family, prepare offerings to honor and pay tribute to their deceased ancestors, and join in making merit at local temples the following day.

This year’s festival featured a variety of activities celebrating and preserving local heritage, including:

Sacred Sandon Ta and Jun Sandon Ta ceremonies.
A parade through the city and exhibitions showcasing local arts and cultural traditions.
A fun and entertaining coconut-scraping competition that brought laughter and smiles to the event.

This meaningful celebration was made possible through the cooperation and dedication of all participating sectors, including Surin Province, which hopes to inspire younger generations and local communities to cherish, protect, and pass on this invaluable cultural heritage to future generations.
